Palin: Being Gay Is A Choice

Posted by Laura Calvo on October 2nd, 2008

“For Governor Palin to suggest that individuals randomly choose their sexual orientation based on nothing but a whim is wrong and it repeats the talking points of the anti-gay special interests which continue to control the McCain/Palin campaign and the Republican Party,”– Jon Hoadley, Executive Director National Stonewall Democrats

Governor Palin’s interview with Katie Couric touched on gay rights after some previous concerns over “Pray the Gay Away” event at Palin’s Wasilla Bible Church had been voiced.

Couric asked Palin about the event and in response Palin said, “I have one of my absolute best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay, and I love her dearly. And she is not my ’gay friend,’ she is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn’t a choice I would have made.”

Hoadley’s spot on response, ““John McCain chose a poor running mate, but he did not choose his sexual orientation.”

The full story can be read at the Edge.

Hoadley sums it up, “ “This is another example of why we need a pro-equality President like Barack Obama in the White House.”

  1. Kari Chisholm Says:

One simple question for Katie Couric, John McCain, Sarah Palin, or anybody else that talks about this “choice” silliness: When did you choose to be straight?

Because I certainly don’t remember considering my options. I was just born straight.
